Fehérgyarmat-centered 10th election district of Szabocs Szatmár Bereg County
He was born in Kisvárda on 9th May 1967. His catholic Swabian ancestors on his father’s side were settled in Rakamaz and Hegyalja from the Rhone-Mosel region in 1740 or thereabout. The grandfather, János Tilki, 1912-1977, was born in Tiszanagyfalu, worked as a shoemaker. The grandmother, Anna Kovács, 1921-2005, was born in Rakamaz, worked as a shop assistant. The ancestors on his mother’s side are of tirpak origin. The grandfather, István Tóth, 1913-2003, was born into a reformed family in Kopócsapáti, now Aranyosapáti. He finished Jutas with the honour of Kinizsi Pál Ring, served as a warrant officer, covered the distance to River Don as a member of the12th infantry regiment, for which he was decorated with a pledge. In 1946, he discharged, was put on B-list, thus during the early 50’s the family lived under bad conditions. He retired from a big fruit and vegetable selling company as an inner inspector. The grandmother, Czirka Ilona Magdolna, 1923-2003, was born in Nyíregyháza, kept the house. The father, László Tilki, Nyíregyháza 1942, after finishing grammar school, attended the railway academy, then worked for MÁV, that is Hungarian Railways, as a railway lineman in Dombrád and Kisvárda. Later he worked for a local building company as a building engineer. The mother, Ágnes Tóth, was also born in Nyíregyháza in 1944. She graduated from Kossuth Lajos University in Debrecen as a geography and history teacher. She started teaching in Dombrád, after that she worked in a vocational secondary school in Kisvárda, then in a primary school in Nyíregyháza, as a deputy head master for many years, now she is retired. The sister, Ágnes, graduated from Kossuth Lajos University and works as a teacher in Nyíregyháza.
Attila Tilki has been married since 1989, his wife, Anikó Tarpai, is a teacher in Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School in Fehérgyarmat. Their daughters, Abigél (1991) and Polett (1993), are students.
He started his schools in Kisvárda then the family moved to Nyíregyháza in 1979, so the last two years of primary school was finished here, after that he attended Kossuth Lajos Grammar School and took the final exam in 1985. Then he had to serve as a regular soldier in Marcali for a year. He continued his studies at Bessenyei György Teacher’s Training College, he majored in history and Russian and graduated in 1991. He started teaching in a little village, Laskod, then in 1994 they moved to the wife’s hometown, Fehérgyarmat. Between 1994-2000, he taught English and history in two primary schools of Fehérgyarmat. Besides his work, he took part in a regional development postgraduate course at the University of Debrecen Faculty of Natural Science and finished it in 2001. During these years he also attended the Faculty of Law and got his degree in law in 2003.
2000-2002, he worked for the prime ministerial office as a small-regional development manager. 2002-2006, he was a full-time deputy mayor of Fehérgyarmat, and he has been the mayor since 2006.
He has been member of some associations, like Rákóczi Society, Kürt-Gyarmat Heritage Preserving Archer Association and Society of Christian Intellectuals. 2004-2007, he was the chairman of Fehérgyarmat Footall Club, since 2005, he has been the chairman of Fehérgyarmat Firebrigade.He joined Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Union in 1999. 2002-2007, he was the leader of its town organization. 2003-2005, he was the county deputy-chairman of the branch for local governments. He has been the county chairman of the party since 2004, and chairman since 2006.
In 1998, he stood for the municipial election as an independant candidate in Fehérgyarmat. In 2002, he was the 22nd on the small settlement list. He was a Fidesz-MDF candidate and became the second with 42%. He got a mandate on the small-list election so he was elected the deputy mayor of the town by the mainly rightist corporate.
On 1st October 2006, he became member of the county assembly from the 4th place of the joint Fidesz-MAGOSZ-NF list, he took part in the work of law and agenda committee. In Decemer 2006, he withdrew from being member of the county assembly. He was a Fidesz-KDNP candidate on the mayor election, which he won with 63.7%. He also became the chairman of Fehérgyarmat Multi-aimed Small Regional Association.He stood for the parliamentary election in April 2006, for the first time, from the 11th place of the joint Fidesz-KDNP county list in the Fehérgyarmat-centered 10th election district of Szabocs Szatmár Bereg County. In the second turn he got 51.6 % and became member of parliament. He has been taking part in the work of municipial and law cabinet of the Fidesz-faction.
As an MP he considers one of his most important duties to represent the interests of people living in an disadvantegous region in order to make their lives better.
